Yep, that's where I'm at.
I just went through my old gallery and sketchbooks and was appalled at what I used to consider 'Awesome Stuff!' I've traded my pencil and paper for a mouse and DAZ Studio now, but I just completely analyzed my, at one time considered 'excellent', grasp of anatomy then and I found myself completely deconstructing my old drawings as though I was appraising someone else's gallery and finding it lacking.
I may yet pick up my pencil again, as I have an awesome steampunk Star Wars idea in mind (I know, done to death, whatever.) And an equally awesome take on Oz (Another one that needs a rest, I know.) and I think it would be nice to do something 'real' again. Something that if I screw up I have to pore over and rework, rather than just clicking 'Undo' a dozen times to get back to the size of boobs that were big but not too big (3D people know what I mean.) but, I don't plan on dumping DAZ. Honeymoon ain't over just because the groom sneaks a peek elsewhere every now and then. I still have to do tribute pics for certain someones (I'm looking at you, Stacey and Sunamori.
Thank you, o gentle reader, for letting me vent a little.

It can be cheap, fast and easy. The problem is, you can only pick two.

Also, are you using UberEnvironment2? It's really helpful in making the scene more vibrant. If only I remembered where that tutorial was.

Try using the distant lights. I don't like the spotlight because they only affect a small area. But Distant Lights have a better reach. Also, if you're using multiple lights, try changing the shadow type to Deep Shadow Map one of them. You get a better looking render that way.
